The original idea of ACCP came from Asian pharmacists who were looking for a practical conference in which they could exchange and share ideas on the concept of clinical pharmacy. In 1996, representatives from China, Korea, Japan and USA met in Seoul, Korea to plan for the first conference. As a result, the first East Asia Conference on Developing Clinical Pharmacy Practice and Education of EACDCPPE was held in America in 1997 under the sponsorship of the McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Samford University, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the Korean College of Clinical Pharmacy. Only 36 representatives attended and it was planned by these pioneers as a bi-annual meeting.
In 1999, the second EACDCPPE was successfully held in Shanghai. This conference enabled more representatives in Asian countries to realize the distance between Asian countries and Western countries in the development of clinical pharmacy. Since the 3rd conference held in Japan, the title of the conference was changed to Asian Conference on Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
This opened the conference to more Asian countries, also the subject of clinical pharmacy was more strengthened. With a serial of other Asian countries attended ACCP, as well as the rapid development of clinical pharmacy in Asia, every country was enthusiastic in attending and holding the conference. The decision has also been made among the representatives of the member countries to hold the conference annually instead of biannually starting from the 5th conference in the year 2005. Indonesia has joined the conference for the first time at this 5th conference in Malaysia and since then representatives and participants from Indonesia has attended the conference. Through the subsequent conferences, Western countries such as America, Canada, Australia and Britain Not only did it lead the direction of development in this field, but also inspired practitioners to think and explore the way of clinical pharmacy. brought plenty of experiences in practice and education of clinical pharmacy to share with Asian countries.
